What Is a “Law Firm”
Wikipedia defines a law firm as a business entity formed by one or more lawyers to engage in the practice of law. Law firms range from one lawyer to hundreds or even thousands of lawyers. The global law firm of Denton’s has more than fifty offices in countries across the globe with approximately 7,000 lawyers.
If you want big, you can find it–but if you want small that’s where we come in.
One lawyer all the time, every time. The lawyer you meet for your initial consultation is the same lawyer that will be sitting next to you when we face the Judge together, and the same guy that will be up there slugging it out for you at the court house during the trial or at the closing table. I’ll write the documents, and I’ll answer your questions. I’ll even do the research.
Most importantly, I won’t send a paralegal to do the job of a lawyer–I show up myself. Even more surprising. I enjoy being part of the process and I don’t mind getting my hands
dirty. I’ll be in the weeds when other lawyers are afraid to scratch the surface. Because that is what we do. We being lawyers. At least that’s what I always thought it meant to be an attorney.
I won’t hand you off to my junior associate because, frankly, I don’t have one.
Yes–I return the calls too.
While I rely heavily on my experienced staff to get out the written materials and to make sure all the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed, ultimately as Harry Truman used to say, “the buck stops here”. Every typo that slips through the reviewing process is my responsibility, and that is why I read every letter I send before the stamp goes on the envelope (or before we hit the send button). So you’re right to put the blame on me if and when a mistake is made. Hopefully those moments will be few and far between, but we try to never lose sight of the fact that, as Alexander Pope wrote, “to err is human.” It’s how the mistake is corrected that makes all the difference.
Ethics are important too. Regardless of what our opponent may do, we will always follow the Rules of Court and never play fast and loose with the facts. As Michelle Obama said, “when they go low, we go high.”
When we founded Richard F. Fried, Counselors at Law, we set out to create something a bit different from the typical law firm. We wanted to help people while earning a living at the same time. We don’t need to “take you to the cleaners” to do that. Yes–it is possible to take your case from start to finish without exhausting the entire family budget! Just try us–and maybe, just maybe, we can be your lawyer for life.
